How much does a hybrid heating system for your home cost?
I would like to get some positive feedback about anyone who owns a hybrid heating system and how much it cost to buy the system and have installed? I already have a gas line FYI
We went through this discussion with our contractor about 18 months ago. Without putting actual numbers on things, a hybrid (gas/electric) system was about 40% more expensive than the most efficient single-fuel (gas) unit. And based on the calculations, we also determined that the price of gas would have to quadruple or the price of electricity drop by 3/4 to make switching worthwhile (a 10-year payback). Given that our rate-caps come off in 13 months, that is a poor bet.
So, before you commit, do the calculations and determine the relationship between the cost of natural gas and the cost of electricity and where the break-point is. That will help you determine what is your best option.
