Amplifier Module
Jaguar-no spark-Book is no help…?
1988 jaguar xj6 was running fine-has 79,000 miles. Today it turns over but no spark…Bought and replaced coil- test light indicates power all the way to the amplifier ( module that is under the coil)- All fuses check out. That little module is 399.00, and its a gm part.Is this the problem or maybe something else ? THANKS
First try this: Use a digital meter to test voltage at the coil plus terminal at the same time you are starting the engine. At this time there should be about 12 volts at the coil terminal. Avoid using test light on solid state circuits (modules, etc.).
Modules do not usually fail (unless you use an incorrect tester such as a test light). If the 1988 XJ6 uses a ballast resistor at the coil, this could be the problem since they do go bad. Let me know outcome.
